One-headed Helianthella

sitting under the flowers
those tall yellow flowers
like common sunflowers but more
refined
less
deserted
11 petals to a sun made from a golden pillow
I rest my tired head against them
imaginatively, for they are unsupportive or frail
they merely represent something
else
restlessness turns in
to wind
One-head Helianthellas' leaves
whisper
foggy drops hover
frozen

day next those yellows
look a little tortured
as if they've shed moisture from their petals
withered
less
pretty
what was often 11 is now 9 or 7 or
none
just takes a night
to change
One-head Helianthellas' flowers
glowing
feathery pillowed
notions
that I could rest my head
periodically,
for serenity was only then
only against them.
