Just want to watch
a movie with you
mostly just sit
next to you
do nothing
re-arrange my weary self
around you
comfortable,
    warm,
      thinking how
               soft bones are.

Instead,
I sit with my friend, my dog
        Claire laying across the couch
         her head on my chest
         Champ laying across my legs
his head curled over my docile wrist
  Sitting up but sleeping
       compassionately,
           and with careful tenderness
            I passively align
                sore
            discs of my neck.
 Claire sits up
    a pillow on her lap
    placed over her knee
    pats it
   lay down
across the curve of her leg
    wrap
         sore vertebrae.

Time passes while we are
                      warm
                      comfortable
                       loving
                        listening
                         subtly breathing
                         hearts' beating
Calm,
   perfect
      and
I'm still.
